Technical Spotlight – Stock Count
Even when running a really tight ship, counting your stock can sometimes seem like a daunting task. Thankfully, EVOPOS has a built-in Count tool which makes the process simple and painless.
There are several ways to use Stock Count. Most dealers prefer to do a continuous rolling stock take which means they take a different Category or Bin Location on a regular basis and stock count in small steps. Or, if you prefer, you can update your entire stock file. It's extremely versatile and you can have multiple people counting stock at the same time.
The stock table contains the last stock count quantity for each item so before you commence a new stock count you should set the stock counted quantity back to zero using the reset option Note select if you are stock counting all or just a Category etc first. Once the counted quantities have been set to zero we can begin counting the stock.
The quickest way is to use a barcode scanner and just scan each item. You can also use special barcodes for entering quantities which save you having to swap between the scanner and the keyboard (customer services will be happy to supply you with a sheet of these Quantity barcodes – They are just –Q99 where 99 is the quantity). Some dealers like to use a laptop connected on a wireless network so they can move the laptop to where the stock is. Or you could use a long extension cable or a Bluetooth wireless scanner. Note the wireless scanners normally have a memory mode so that even when they are out of range you can still scan the numbers and then upload them when you replace it back in the cradle.
If you do not have barcode scanners you can either enter the part numbers on the keyboard. Alternatively you could view or print out a list, note any changes and then bring up the list on the screen and change the appropriate quantities.
If you are counting a Category or Bin location and the item entered is marked as being in a different one the system will prompt to change it.
At any stage, you can print detailed reports which outline stock quantities, adjust counted quantities. When you have finished you can update all your stock figures securely and easily and an adjustment record is created so you can look back and see what was changed at any time.
